Performing tasks in McMMO rewards you with Experience Points, or XP, in the relevant skill. When you get enough XP in a skill, it levels up, in turn improving your ability to perform that task. McMMO doesn't use Minecraft's XP system.
The total XP required for level x is 10x2 + 1030x. To get from level x to x + 1, the experience required is 1020 + 20x. Reaching level 1000 from level 0 requires 1,520,000 XP.
Your power level is the sum of all your skill levels. Currently, power level has no in-game effect, though it may intimidate other players if high enough.

Note: On some servers, xp can be gained from using spawner mobs and mobs from spawn eggs, however, you should check with the server owner or staff member to make sure. Further, as of version 1.4.04, Wither, Enderdragon and Witches no longer grant any PVP skills due to their ability to regain health. On some servers, they still grant xp, usually if the mobGriefing rule is set to true, to stop the use of these mobs as grinders.
